Part 1 : Notebook sketches
This is a selection of sketches done during a research cruise in the Southern California Bight.
The specimens were collected at different depths using a 10m MOCNESS system.
The purpose of these sketches is to inform larger illustrations. The main focus of this project, which is being done in collaboration with Anela Choy and her lab at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, is to illustrate the wonderful biodiversity of the deep sea. It also intends to shed light on the metabolism of mid-water fishes by looking at their gastric anatomy, which is understudied. The illustrations contribute to the lab’s outreach programs and scientific publications.
